Snow!

Snow can either be really really fun, OR it could be a major inconvenience! Being the optimistic people we are, me and Matt decided to take advantage of the snow and include it in our video.

Me and Matt trekked out, only for about half an hour, and got some shots of me walking in the snow in the costume. We thought this would be good as it gives the effect that the detective has been traveling for a very long time and over different terrains. It was freezing! I had to pick up the cable from the floor with bare hands and they became so cold that it hurt, I have never been so cold in my life, wearing just a thin coat and only a few layers out in the snow. Im sure it will be worth it when all the clips come together in the finished project.

Health and Safety Risk Assessment

One of the most important things that needs to be taken into account when filming is Health and Safety. Being safe and preventing any harm coming to us, other actors and the equipment is priority. Because of this, there are several rules that should be followed;

1. No Filming in inappropriate locations - Filming on a building site (for example) holds too many risks for us and the equipment.

2. Check safety of locations - This is especially important for us as we use a variety of locations, including roads and busy areas.

3. Minimise risk of theft or theft of equipment - We only take things that are essential on location to minimise the risk of theft. We also film regularly with many people on location with us.

4. When filming on location, ensure teacher or responsible adult know where you are and have a telephone number and when you return.

5. Check all equipment is working before you leave - The camera is always fully charged before we leave and all equipment is checked.

6. Ensure you have permission for filming if necessary - we always get permission as we film in many locations. For example, we got permission from the library receptionist in order to film there.

7. Always film with at least one other person - we often film as a group, with people spectating. If not, it is always us two with only one of us being filmed at any one time.

8. Ensure you have permission of those you are filming - The good thing about our video is that we are the only two people that star in it for the most part, but permission is always obtained for all people being filmed.

A Busy Two Weeks

Within the next two weeks I hope that we would have finished filming, both the shots of the band and all of the detective shots. This would give us a good amount of time with the editing process. Editing is one of my favourite parts, so I'm looking forward to it. I'm most looking forward to seeing our finished piece, seeing al our hard work come together in one place, no doubt it will be worth it!

Deadline . . . Dun Dun Duuuuunnnnnnn!

We've been given a deadline for the production of our music video . . . the 17th December. This date is kinda close, so we need to finish the end of filming really soon so as we can have a lot more time editing and making the video perfect. It shouldn't be too much of a worry as we started early and have allowed ourselves plenty of time and we're quite experienced with the editing process. Lets hope we don't have too many unexpected troubles.

Logo Examples

Plenty of bands use a logo which makes them instantly recognisable and associable. Below are some examples of famous bands (including Indie Bands) that use logos;

Logo?

Me and Matt was thinking that we could possibly have a logo that could be used for this specific song, or even for the band as a whole! This could be a simple font displaying the band name, or could be as advanced as an animated caricature, which could be made using photoshop.

Making a caricature could be great fun, but whatever we choose to use will mean we have to get used to software that is a bit more advanced and isn't so closely linked to film, for example 'Photoshop'. Better get learning! . . .

School Hall Band Setting

Below are a few photos of our school hall, which is the setting for the 'band practice' part of the video. The pictures are taken from angles we hope to use in the actual video.

Conventions of the Genre: Indie

Indie videos vary as much as the genre itself. The genre includes slower, more passionate songs, and also songs that are lively and could be 'moshed' to. As videos act to mirror and compliment the song, they too are either slower or can be lively.

Our song in particular is quite lively and energetic, so we'll focus on videos that are also like this.

Most Indie videos that are lively and energetic use a lot of colour and sometimes use humorous characters, like we plan to. The vibrant colours increase the sense of consciousness and energy and compliment the song very well. At some point, we will incorporate this in with our plans, in order to be 'in-keeping' with the genre conventions.

There is also quite a large focus on the band and the song being sung, so this also needs to be focussed on quite a lot throughout the video.

Mainly, Indie videos are fun, confident and empowering. Hard standards to live up to, but we plan to do well :)

Treatment: Music Video Preparation

Name Of Track: Green Eyed Monster

Artist(s): 1984

Name(s) of Student(s) in Group: Christopher Joyce, Matt Maloney

Initial Research and Target Audience:
- After doing some study into genre, we decided to pick and Indie song, as it best compliments the way we lip-sync and the type of video we want to create.
- The Indie genre led us to finding our target audience, which would mainly be females between the ages of 17 and 21.
- With the use of surveymonkey.com we created a survey so as to make sure our target audience was correct.
- Surveymonkey also helped us to see HOW and WHERE people watch music videos and what they like about them. This will help us when we produce the digipak and has influenced what we want to include in the video.

Outline Ideas:
We have a humourous character of the detective, who trips over a wire and decides to follow it, due to it causing him distress. The wire takes him through many funny locations and he eventually ends up at the location where the band are playing. We will have two seperate storylines, one the detective and the other of the band playing the song. They converge near the end when the detective ends up at the bands practice. Hoping for it to be funny as the detective links in with the questioning lyrics.

Filming Environment

Me and Matt have been filming for about 2 or 3 weeks now, doing snippets here and there. We're now about 3/4 of the way through. I'm really glad that we started filming so early, as we have a very comfortable and relaxed filming environment, there's very little stress and we've been able to get a great deal more shots done (including some adventurous ones) than if we had taken more time to start filming.

I think that because we started earlier, we've been able to plan and organise to a much better standard. Also, we've had a great deal more fun than we would have had, had we started a lot later. If you're not having fun, then what's the point right?

Perhaps the Album Cover or Advert Picture?

Thinking ahead, we thought that it would be a good idea to get a quick picture of me in a silhouette whilst we had the location to do so. We thought this would bea good picture for either the album cover or advert. Good idea? We think so.

Spot The Difference

Just looking at the similarites between the character we have created and the character of Inspector Cluseau from the Pink Panther series of films.
We modelled and costumed our character well. What is different is that our character has more exaggerated features. For example, the out of proportion moustache and the hat that is too big, along with the over-sized, stereotypical coat.

Shooting Locations

Below are some photos of where we have been shooting. There's a lot of variation in our locations which can only contribute positively to our video, as it will make it more interesting and more humorous and will give the impression that the Detective has travelled further.
This is Matt and his Old Man pose at the location where we have done the "Getting Run Over" scene.

This is me and my detective pose in Central Park, Dagenham. This is the location for the golfer scene.

This is the civic centre, and is the location for the introduction of the detective. We will only be in this location for roughly 10 seconds in the film, but it required about half hour of being at the location getting the shots.

This is Wantz library and is the first location the detective travels through. It will be humorous as the detective travels through the book shelves and aisles. We go this idea from old cartoons such as scooby doo :)

This is the alley in which we have done the "dog chase" scene. I don't want to spoil it, so i won't say anything about the scene, but this is where we filmed it :)

This is heath park in Dagenham, just a site for a few walking scenes that are gonna make up some time in the video.
